Playhouse Square is responsible for the ownership, redevelopment and ongoing viability of the historic theaters in Downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The theater complex is the largest performing arts center in the United States, outside of Lincoln Center in New York.
When the theaters were saved from demolition and redeveloped, it was the hope of Playhouse Square that private developers would rally around the effort and improve the district’s real estate. Unfortunately, those developers never really materialized and Playhouse Square began the work of redeveloping the neighborhood.
In 1999, Playhouse Square purchased the 16-story, 400,000 square-foot Hanna Building. This historic office building houses over 200 tenants, and this is when the foundation elected to self-manage the property by bringing on a well-respected industry leader by the name of Tim Luli. He and Tom Adler, former Playhouse Square Board Chair and current Senior Advisor, formed PSF Management. The enterprise became responsible for managing an owned portfolio of approximately 1,000,000 square feet of commercial space. In addition, Tim brought along third-party clients and the overall management consists of over 2,000,000 square feet of properties throughout Northeast Ohio.
Based on the belief that people would better recognize the team if branded as Playhouse Square, the company became Playhouse Square Real Estate Services.
